Silver Nuggets: Spezza on fire; Melnyk decides on Murray/Clouston future but won't say

The Ottawa Senators continued their home dominance of the Philadelphia Flyers with a 5-2 win last night. It was the Senators seventh win in a row in Ottawa against Philadelphia, outscoring the Flyers 27-13 in that span. With the win, the Senators moved two points ahead of the Florida Panthers and level on points with the New York Islanders, though the Islanders and Panthers have a game in hand.

The NHL Draft lottery will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 8 p.m. live on TSN (and possibly tape delayed on ESPN Classic 6 following the dog and pony show). Here are the updated calculations for the Senators draft probabilities:

Lastly, Brandon Isenor is doing a research paper and had this question for the bloggers on here about the Silver Seven Community. As it was after everyone had left the game thread, I will post it again for him, so help a Sens fan out!

Im doing a paper on Internet communities and was wondering what your opinions are regarding what it means to be a community online. Have you developed friendships? what brings you together? (other than the love of the team) Are there other communites your equallt vested your time in? What seprates one from the rest? that sort of thing. Any feedback would be appreciated, but no pressure :P

With that, here are today's links:

General Sens News

  • Jason Spezza is awesome. How awesome? He's 2nd in the NHL in points since February 7 (his 2nd game back from injury). Yes, it's an arbitrary date that I picked to maximise his output, but it is a good third of the season. (Adnan)
  • Eugene Melnyk was on Toronto radio station Fan 590 again and revealed that he has decided Bryan Murray and Cory Clouston's future, he won't tell us though. He also hopes to be back in the playoffs next season, and discusses whether he thinks Daniel Alfredsson will play again. And the best quote? "We’ve got rid of all the bad guys." Funny Eugene! (Sun)
  • UPDATE: Cory Clouston apparently hasn't been told of Melnyk's decision yet either. Clouston would like to return though. (Sun)
  • Ottawa sent down Andre Benoit, Erik Condra, David Hale, Roman Wick and Patrick Wiercioch to Binghamton to help them clinch a playoff spot tonight. (Joy Lindsay)
  • I guess I can't make fun of anyone for not smiling in a picture, but this guy doesn't look very happy to get a game worn Jason Spezza jersey. (Joy Lindsay)

General Hockey News

  • Alexander Ovechkin's goal last night made him the sixth youngest player in NHL history to score 300 career goals. All five players ahead of him played in the run and gun era of the 1980s. (NHL.com)
  • More on Ovechkin, apparently the dip in his numbers is due to him taking a more team oriented approach, including...dumping the puck in! (ESPN)
  • Here is an article on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. We likely won't get him, or Landeskog or Larsson unless we win the lottery, but worth a read. (NHL.com)/
