Silver Nuggets: Prediction Review + Series Preview

A couple of weeks ago, I created a Google spreadsheet for all of us to predict the Senators remaining 10 games. Here's our check-in on how we did!

Instructions:

Our goal? To predict the remaining outcomes of the Senators season - just like how I have on the spreadsheet (W, OTW, SOW; L, OTL, SOL). For every prediction you get right, you'll get two points (if you predict the exact score, you'll get four points). For every prediction you get wrong, you'll receive no points. 24 hours from now, I'll lock the spreadsheet so that we can't make any further changes, and at the end of the season, I'll add up the scores and post the results!

I ended up giving 4 points to anyone who predicted the exact outcome (score + game result), 2 points to anyone who predicted the right game result (W, OTW, SOW; L, OTL, SOL), 1 point to anyone who correctly predicted a W or L but got the exact result wrong (W but not OTW/SOW, etc.), and 0 points to anyone else.

By a fair margin, cashmad is our winner! Special congrats to the two people (Charles Christensen, J Wood 88) who predicted the exact score outcome of the Philadelphia game. Also want to note that Markuki predicted a 6-0 W for every single game and managed to come in (tied for) third with 8 points - love your optimism! If you wanted to take a look at your predictions, here's the link! If I got your score wrong (it happens), let me know in the comments section. Part of me is glad that cashmad won by a 4 point margin because it decreases the likelihood of me screwing up the winner.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Sens Links

  • Starting the links off with a heavy heart due to the passing of Senators assistant coach, Mark Reeds. Thoughts, condolences, and well-wishes are with his family and loved ones. [Bayshore Broadcasting, Ottawa Senators, Silver Seven, 6th Sens, SensChirp, Ottawa Citizen]
  • Before we get to the playoff previews, here's the final regular season game recaps of the season. Excited to be typing this for at least four more games this year, and hopefully many more. [Silver Seven, Rank the Performances, Ottawa Citizen I, Ottawa Citizen II, SensChirp, SenShot]
  • A couple hours later, the Senators found out that their first round matchup is going to be against the Montreal Canadiens. [Silver Seven, SensChirp, Ottawa Citizen]
  • The folks over at Sens Callups recorded their thoughts on the final two games, the streak, and the Montreal Canadiens in the newest episode of their podcast. [Sens Callups]
  • Adnan wrote (!!) a really nice piece on the Senators journey to the playoffs. They came a long way from where they were at in October, that's for sure. [Silver Seven]
  • Our playoff coverage here at Silver Seven begins with our playoff bracket (I) and staff predictions (II). Ross then has a post specifically on how the streak offers vindication for this young team (III), and Amelia ties that in with history and our perceptions of the team at the start of the year (IV). Brad then has a fun tidbit on a certain somebody's save percentage (V), and Ross answered some questions about the series for the Habs SBN blog (VI). Busy couple of days, eh?
  • Given the news about Mark Reeds, the Senators will go into the series intrinsically motivated to come out victorious. They have another person they're surely fighting for as well - their GM. Here's Trevor's thoughts on this topic. [SenShot]
  • Here's Wayne Scanlan on the Sens attitude heading into the series. To me, this is bonus hockey. We've been in playoff mode for the past two months now. [Ottawa Citizen]
  • Jack looks as what's changed between the Sens + Habs since their 2013 series. [SenShot]
  • Two pieces that look at key matchups in the series from a quantitative perspective. [Ottawa Citizen - Karlsson v. Subban, Hammond v. Price]
  • Some roster news after practice yesterday. Milan Michalek is back healthy and will be in the lineup during Game 1. He lined up alongside Mika Zibanejad and Bobby Ryan, with Mike Hoffman back with David Legwand and Alex Chiasson. Zack Smith is a healthy scratch, alongside a healthy Chris Neil (!) and Colin Greening. For more news and notes, check out Nichols playoff preview column, or Ken Warren's five takes. [Silver Seven, 6th Sens, Ottawa Citizen]
  • The Citizen has a column of cool columns that showcase the local storylines heading into the series. First, a column that looks at the local players playing in this series (I), with a detailed look at Habs killer Jean-Gabriel Pageau (II). Next, a look at how the series will help local Ottawa businesses (III). Lastly, the ticket fiasco surrounding the Sens home games that you may have heard about (IV).
  • In case you missed anything from last week, Eldrinson has SenShot's weekly twitter roundup. Really helpful for people like me who always fall behind on things. [SenShot]
  • The BSens played their last couple of games of the season, and Ian covered them for us. Always a great read. [Silver Seven]
  • Jeff also has his final BSens thoughts of the regular season, with game recaps vs. Albany and Utica. [SenShot - v. Albany, SenShot - v. Utica]
  • Ross goes through who's trending up and down for the final week of the regular season. Here's hoping for ALL GREEN ARROWS over the next two weeks. [Silver Seven]
  • Who finished the season on a high note around the league? What about on a low note? Take a look! [SenShot]
  • The funnest link of the week looks at a ton of photographs on... Mark Stone's facial expressions. Please please please read the captions. [Ottawa Citizen]
  • A special playoff edition of a podcast featuring two gentlemen who believed in this team all along, Chet Sellers and Luke Peristy. [Silver Seven]/

NHL Links

  • NHL.com has their series previews up for the eight first round matchups. Here's their portal for the Sens-Habs, but click the teams at the top to read some great content on the other series! [NHL]
  • A cool piece on a fan who saw all thirty teams play in thirty nights. [Sportsnet]
  • I love comics journalism. I love hockey. Here's a piece on both - on an introduction to the Stanley Cup by Molly Brooks. [The Nib]
  • The other goalie going into the playoffs on an absolutely wild run? Devan Dubnyk. [Sportsnet]
  • Jonathan Pitre's story is inspirational, and I'm proud to call myself a Sens fan because he's also one. Here's a somber, but awe-inspiring documentary on his story from the folks over at TSN. [TSN]/
