Cowen, Wiercioch named to Team Canada selection camp

Team Canada announced the roster for its selection camp for the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship today, and two Senators prospects were included: Jared Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch.

Cowen, the 9th overall pick in 2009, is having a stellar season with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. He has 16 points in 23 games, and is +12 while anchoring the team's blueline. Cowen is 6'5", 226lbs.

Wiercioch, a second round pick in 2008 (#42 overall), has put up 10 points in 13 games and is +6 with the University of Denver Pioneers. Wiercioch is also 6'5", making him and Cowen the two tallest players to audition for the team. Wiercioch is also one of only two NCAA players to make the the training camp roster.

I should reiterate that neither player has made the team yet, as they've only made the selection camp roster. The final roster won't be announced until later this month, after the camp (which runs Dec. 12-16). As discussed earlier, Team Sweden announced their roster a few days ago which included Sens prospects Erik Karlsson, Andre Petersson, and Jakob Silfverberg.
