Game 45: Calgary Flames @ Ottawa Senators

No time to savor Ottawa's "thrilling" victory over the Islanders last night as the Sens get right back to it tonight by taking on the Flames at home.  At home... where they're just 9-12-2 this year.  Luckily, Calgary is just 7-12-4 on the road.

The Flames are mired in their own losing streak, with losses to the Islanders, Canucks, Red Wings, and Hurricanes in their last four games. But that's not as bad as it sounds, since the last two were overtime losses in which they scored four goals and five goals, respectively. Consummate badass Jarome Iginla leads the team with 18 goals, and Alex Tanguaycontinues to be effective wherever he goes -- he leads the team with 22 assists, just one less than Iginla.

Stop me if this sounds familiar, but Calgary's real problems have been in goal.  But don't take my word for it.  From our friends at Matchsticks and Gasoline's recap of the OTL to Carolina:

It was another rough night for the Flames' back end however, Kiprusoff included. Cory Sarichmade two trips to the penalty box while finishing in the red in both possession and overall scoring chances while his partener Mark Giordano was unfortunate enough to finish -2 on the night. Kipper was pulled in the second period after allowing three Hurricanes goals on just eight shots and Henrik Karlssonwas good when called upon--saving 21 of 22 shots and stopping 2/3 'Canes shooters in the SO.

So, you know, the goalies are the ones to watch in this one. There are rumors we may see their Karlsson in action, while recently-shellacked Brian Elliottgets the start for Ottawa. Per Cory Clouston, via the Ottawa Sun:

"It would have been his (Lehner's) fourth game in six nights back-to-back," said Clouston. "He played well, but there’s still definitely some areas he needs to tighten up on. It was a real good first start. He’ll get an opportunity here in the next little while."

However, for you, there are no nights off, so join us in the comments thread... and try to tighten up!
