Game 33 preview: Ottawa Senators @ les Canadiens de Montréal

A preview of the game between the Ottawa Senators and les Canadiens de Montréal on 20 December 2014.

The suddenly surging Ottawa Senators (!!!) will looking to win their third consecutive game when they visit the 1794, 1827 and 1877 Stanley Cup champions, les Canadiens de Montréal. The Senators are coming off a 6-2 home win over Anaheim while the Habs are coming off a 2-1 home loss to Anaheim (suckers!).

With the Senators playing last night, there was an optional skate this morning. Here is the team that played against Anaheim last night. Robin Lehner will start.

MacArthur - Turris - Stone
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Ryan
Greening - Legwand - Michalek
Condra - Pageau - Chiasson

Phillips - Karlsson
Cowen - Ceci
Borowiecki - Gryba

Anderson

Some notes for tonight:

  • Patrick Wiercioch is a game time decision for tonight. Fingers crossed that he can come in (and it is Chris Phillips that goes out).
  • Erik Karlsson had multiple points in a game last night for the first time since 24 November and only the third time all season. He's had some bad luck offensively but as of right now he is only on pace for 59 points. It would be his worst points/game total since 2010-2011.
  • The Senators are 4-1-1 in their last six games and 3-1-1 since Dave Cameron took over.
  • Ottawa could move within six points behind the Habs with a game in hand should they win in regulation. If the Habs collapse, that would be great right?
  • Known sieve, Carey Price is having a surprisingly good season so far with a 92.3 save percentage.
  • Who will fake injury first tonight? Price or Max Pacioretty?
  • What will be the first incident that has the locals crying about being victims? Retweet for a clear offside, favourite for a clear penalty.
  • Don't look now but Mika Zibanejad is on pace for 45 points in 80 games. That's solid second line numbers no? He has 11 points in his last nine games.
  • All 10 of Mike Hoffman's goals have been at even strength.
  • Puck drop will be delayed by 30 minutes to honour the descendants of the 1794 Stanley Cup champion team.

Here are some stats for the two teams tonight. All stats are from NHL.com except Corsi and Fenwick are from naturalstattrick.com.
