Game 18 Preview: Florida Panthers @ Ottawa Senators

A preview of tonight's Hockey Night in Canada game

After falling prey to the Predators (get it?) for the second time in as many weeks, the Senators face a division rival in the Florida Panthers. I'm not still not used to them being in the same division. There was only an optional skate today, so nobody knows the lines for sure, but Booboo's best guess is that Bobby Ryan is out and Mike Hoffman is doubtful, meaning Max McCormick and Curtis Lazar are most likely playing.

Here's my best guess at lines:

Dzingel - Turris - Pyatt
Puempel - Brassard - Stone
Smith - Kelly - Pageau
Lazar - McCormick - Neil

Methot - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Borowiecki - Wideman

Anderson (starter)
Condon

Some notes for tonight:

    • The Sens put Andrew Hammond on waivers today, so I guess that means they expect Anderson to stay with the team for a while
    • Hoffman and Ryan have combined for a sixth of Ottawa's goals and shots on goal.
    • Many were saying Ottawa lacked depth to start the year, and injuries to MacArthur, Hoffman, and Ryan have cemented that
    • Curtis Lazar has 35 points in 143 NHL games, which is more than I'd realized
    • The Sens haven't scored more than two goals in a game (excluding shootouts) since October 25th
    • Of the 23 skaters to play for the Sens this season, 10 have no goals. Only seven have no points. The only one I'd expect to have earned a point by now is Matt Puempel.
  • Here are some stats. All stats are from NHL.com except Corsi and Fenwick are from Natural Stat Trick.
