Game 16 Preview: Golden Knights @ Senators

Will they make it a streak?

After coming off quite possibly their best game of the season, the Sens look to make a winning streak out of it. The most significant update for the Sens as they face the Golden Knights tonight is that they will have Brady Tkachuk back in the lineup. Against the New Jersey Devils, this team showed that they have a lot of potential if they can maintain their focus throughout the game.

The Sens are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games and dropped their first meeting with the Golden Knights 4-3 in OT. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights are 5-4-1 in their last games and are coming off a fresh 3-1 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Guy Boucher is going back to the 11-7 setup with Craig Anderson getting yet another start.

Game Notes

  • Nate Schmidt is still fighting his 20 game suspension after he allegedly tested positive for performance enhancement substances. He still claims his innocence but as of today, there is doubt he will win this fight.
  • The Golden Knights’s power play is ranked dead last in the league, the Sens should use that to their advantage and build some PK confidence in the game. Their PK stats are much better ranked 9th in the league with a 82.5% success rate.
  • All eyes will be on Mark Stone after his thrilling 5-point performance against the New Jersey Devils, Brandon Maki writes why he should be the next Senators Captain and I think we all an agree with that statement.
  • The Golden Knights are ranked last in goals for with an average of 2.2 goals per game, if the Sens can create a wild storm of goals early on, it would help neutralize the Knights offense a bit. One would hope they learned from last game against the party team.
  • Brady Tkachuk is a bit ahead of schedule and he was dearly missed. His big body presence and his energy should be quite visible tonight.
  • Matt Duchene’s character has been buried into the ground (mostly by Avs fans) in the past few days but big performances tend to calm this kind of chatter away, expect a determined Duchene tonight.
  • With Thomas Chabot taking the defensive lead last game, what will he do next? /
