Weekly Question: Which Former Senator is Finished in the NHL?

A post examining former Senators who might not be back in the NHL after their performances this season or personal concerns.

While Ottawa did not qualify for the playoffs this season, many former Senators graced the lineups of playoff teams. Some, like Marian Hossa, were still going strong deep into the playoffs. However, many were eliminated early in the playoffs or did not play an integral role. With that in mind, today’s Weekly Question is: which former Senator have we seen the last of in the NHL?

Candidates:

Daniel Alfredsson

The Wings struggled to make the playoffs, were eliminated in five games by the Bruins, and are outside the group of Stanley Cup contenders. Alfredsson stated midway through the season that he was interested in playing another year in Detroit. However, contract talks have yet to take place and he's still weighing his options. At 41, every year could be his last.

Dany Heatley

In the last season of the seven-year deal he signed with Ottawa, Heatley would have been bought out by Minnesota if he hadn’t been injured last summer. His production continued to decrease this season and his role was reduced, as Heatley found himself on the fourth line. While he had a couple of good games in the playoffs, he was also a healthy scratch at times.

Martin Havlat

Still skilled, injuries have taken their toll on Havlat and he’s been limited to just 127 games over the last three seasons. His production has decreased as well and he hasn’t netted more than 30 points in a season since 2010-2011 when he was with the Wild. While he was healthy this postseason, he only dressed for one game against the Kings. The Sharks have already stated the won’t be back in San Jose.
