Weekly Question: What to do with Curtis Lazar?

This week's question focuses on prospect Curtis Lazar and what the Sens should do with the young forward in 2014-2015

With many in the organization suggesting teenager Curtis Lazar could make the Senators this season, the question becomes what is best for his development.

This week's question asks: what should the Senators do with Curtis Lazar in 2014-2015?

Back to the Oil Kings

While it might be most desirable for Lazar to spend a year in the AHL, if he isn't in the NHL, he'll be back in the WHL. However, exposing the young forward to another season of junior hockey, complete with another national team experience at the 2015 World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal (most likely), will give him more big game experience.

9 game taste of the NHL experience

This is a common tactic with highly ranked prospects across the league. The Senators gave Mika Zibanejad a nine-game look in 2011-2012 and after recording an assist in his first NHL game, he was held pointless for the next eight games, before being returned to Djurgårdens IF. This might be the most reasonable option, allowing the Senators coaching staff and management a chance to see how well Lazar fits currently and which position (centre or wing) works for him now and in the future.

Midseason call-up

Lazar might be the kind of prospect who, after a hot start in junior, is called up midseason. If he continues to perform at levels the management team approves of, he'll stay with the big club. This approach is similar to the way the Sens handled Mika Zibanejad in 2013-2014.

Full season in the NHL

As simple as it sounds. He's a legit NHLer. Hopefully the tactic the Sens will take with Mika Zibanejad in 2014-2015.
