Week Ahead: Apr 12 to 13

Of course the season had to end like this - in a back to back with travel.

Waldorf: Eh, Statler?

Statler: Yah, what?

Waldorf: Is that it?

Statler: Yes, its over. How'd you like it?

Waldorf: I don't know, I slept through the whole thing.

Statler: Well, you didn't miss much.

Okay, we all know about what happened to the Maple Leafs over the past month.

Total.

Epic.

Collapse.

That doesn't mean they aren't pushovers in individual games, though. Their power play is still fifth in the league. They're still shooting at a pretty high percentage. Phil Kessel is still at just under a point per game. James van Riemsdyk is having the best season of his career.

Of course, they're still a complete disaster in possession metrics. No goalies in the league have seen more rubber, not even Ottawa's. Bernier, a move that actually panned out for them, has been shut down for the season. And to top it all, Nonis seems to have lost his horse shoes.

Sidney Crosby, as pretty much all season, continues to lead the league in points. It's by a pretty absurd margin too. He also leads in assists and is sixth in goals. And it's not even close to a career year. He might just be kinda good at this hockey thing.

Marc-Andre Fleury continues along as he has for the past few years, which doesn't bode well for them in the playoffs.

Special teams are solid for Pittsburgh. The power play is first in the league and scores on almost one in every four chances, while the penalty kill second.

Evgeni Malkin has been out with a foot injury. Hard to say if he's shut down until the playoffs, or if they'll want to give him one game before they get important. Really though, given that Pittsburgh has clinched their division and can't catch Boston, it's hard to say who will be their lineup in a game that potentially has absolutely no meaning. As it is, the most it could impact would be finishing ahead of some of the Western teams.
