Ups and Downs: Week 20

Injuries and call-ups highlight Week 20

Another fairly successful week for the Senators, but at a great cost. The Sens fell to the lowly Hurricanes this week and lost Robin Lehner and Clarke MacArthur to concussions in the process. Bolstered between the pipes by AHL and ECHL call-ups, the Sens bounced back against Montreal, winning 4-2 and then looked quite good on Saturday night, beating Florida 4-1.

Biggest gains: Kyle Turris

After having a slow January, Turris has picked it up as of late and has looked much between with Milan Michalek and Mark Stone on his wings. Two goals, two assists and 11 shots highlighted his week.

Biggest losses: Jared Cowen

Rough week for Cowen. The problems he went through to begin the year are still plaguing him. On the ice for five opposition goals this week, he was particularly bad against Montreal and Carolina and has the poor possession numbers to prove it. He's also facing a potential suspension for his hit on Jussi Jokinen.

Defensemen

Mark Borowiecki Scratched against Carolina, was back in for the last two games of the week. Had a bit of a tough time against Montreal, but not as much as other defenseman, and added a fight.
Cody Ceci Just like partner Cowen, got caved in against Montreal. Unlike Cowen he was actually pretty good against Carolina and Florida, and added a goal too. Would like to see what he's like away from 2.
Jared Cowen See biggest losses.
Eric Gryba Rough week for Gryba. Tough games against Carolina and Montreal and some bad possession numbers. While he was physical against Montreal, he found himself a healthy scratch against Florida.
Erik Karlsson "Candidate for biggest gains. Another great week for the captain. A goal and 4 assists to go with 8 shots, Karlsson was simply explosive this week and had some of the best possession numbers on the team." Wrote this last week, exactly the same this week.
Marc Methot Another nice week for Methot on the ice. Good possession numbers and Erik continues to do his thing. Oh yeah, and he signed that big extension.
Chris Phillips Did not play all week. Will we ever see him again?
Patrick Wiercioch Scratched against Montreal but had some of the best possession numbers on the team against Carolina and Florida, good enough for green.
Forwards

Alex Chiasson Some pretty good possession numbers, an assist and 2 shots while playing a bottom six role.
Erik Condra A goal, an assist, 4 shots, and decent possession numbers gets Condra a green arrow.
Mike Hoffman 1 goal, 1 assist, 8 shots, good possession numbers, and continues to look great on Ottawa's most dangerous line.
Curtis Lazar Lazar had a decent week with 5 shots, 13 hits, and 1 awkward goal. Good possession numbers too.
David Legwand Held off the scoreboard but decent possession numbers. Will he still be wearing a Sens jersey in a couple weeks?
Clarke MacArthur Get well soon!
Milan Michalek Another great week for Michalek, with 1 goal and 3 assists. He's looked good playing with Turris and Stone.
Chris Neil Had surgery on his injured thumb this week, should be back in a few weeks.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau Missed the Carolina game but was recalled when MacArthur went down. He went Pageau against the Habs, scoring a goal with 3 shots and 4 hits. He added an assist against Florida as well.
Bobby Ryan Good week for Ryan, a goal and assist, and more of the same. It's what we've come to expect.
Zack Smith It sounds like we might not see Smith again this season. Get well soon!
Mark Stone Great week for Stone. 1 goal and 3 assists and some great possession numbers against Montreal and Florida.
Kyle Turris See biggest gains.
Mika Zibanejad 2 assists and 9 shots with good possession numbers, it's what we've come to expect from him.
Andrew Hammond Candidate for biggest gains. Did everything that could possibly be expected from him in his first two NHL starts: 95.5 SV% against Montreal and Florida.
Shane Prince Got his first taste of NHL action this week against Carolina (and looked decent) and also dressed against Montreal. Registered his first NHL point, an assist against Carolina, too! Made way for Matt Puempel later in the week.
Matt Puempel Got his first taste of NHL action against Florida.
