Update on the Senators at the World Championships

Just a quick look at how some of the Ottawa Senators representatives are doing at the 2010 IIHF World Hockey Championships through some of Friday:

Peter Regin, Demark: Part of the most pleasantly surprising team in the championships so far, Regin and the Danes have beaten Finland and the USA before losing to Germany in the preliminary round. In their first game of the qualifying round, the Danes annihilated Slovakia in a 6-0 win. In that game, Regin had three points (1G, 2A); in the tournament, he's now got six points (2G, 4A). Denmark will take on Russia on Sunday in their second qualifying-round matchup.

Erik Karlsson, Sweden: Karlsson's Swedes won Group C of the tournament with wins over Norway and France before a loss to the Czech Republic. Karlsson has one goal so far in the tournament, on two shots. Sweden takes on Latvia on Friday afternoon in the qualification round.

Nick Foligno, USA: Despite being an assistant captain on team USA, Foligno's got to be pretty disappointed with his team's performance. Even if they are some of the NHL's lesser-lights, few would have predicted the Americans would go winless in the preliminary round and have to head to the relegation round to retain their standing in the top group of hockey nations. (Joining them in the relegation round are Kazakhstan, Italy, and France... yeah, it's that bad.) USA takes on Kazakhstan tomorrow in their first relegation-round game. Foligno has no points in three games, and only four shots on goal.

Kaspars Daugavins, Latvia: The Latvians lost to Switzerland and Canada before getting their only win of the tournament, a 5-2 result against Italy that kept them out of the relegation round. Daugavins scored both of his goals in the tournament against Italy, the only points he's netted so far. His team will take on Karlsson and the Swedes in qualification round play later on Friday.
