Top 25 Under 25, no. 16: Ryan Dzingel
Former Ohio State Buckeyes forward Ryan Dzingel takes the 16th spot in the Silver Seven Top 25 Under 25 series
Making his first appearance on the Top 25 Under 25 list is Ryan Dzingel. We owe his presence in the Senators organization thanks to the 2011 7th round draft pick that came back in the Alex Kovalev trade.
Hockey's Future's description:
Dzingel is a play-making, skill forward who sees the ice well and creates opportunities for his teammates. He does not play a physical style but seemed to be much more consistent in his second year of junior hockey. He is an accurate, dangerous shooter and some would like to see him shoot more often.
The 6'0 187 lbs play-making forward from Wheaton, Illinois has an eye for the net. Dzingel was a point-per-game player for the past three years with the Ohio State Buckeyes. This past year, he put up 22 goals and 24 assists in 37 games to earn himself a Hobey Baker nomination for best player in NCAA hockey. The 22-year-old has done a great job developing his skills at the college level and seems poised to make a splash in the pro ranks next.
After his college season, he joined the Binghamton Senators for the last 9 games of the regular season and put up 2 goals and 5 assists in 9 games. Hopefully those numbers will translate well over a full season with coach Luke Richardson.
Dzingel signed a two-year entry level deal back in April. With a crowded depth chart, he will need to continue improving at his fast current rate in order to push for an NHL job in a year or two.
