Top 25 Under 25, #6: Logan Brown

The power forward cracks the top ten for the second straight year.

No. 6: Logan Brown (Reader Rank: 6, Last Year: 6)

The Senators’ 11th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft got off to a roaring start with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL last season. Brown began the 2016-17 campaign with a seven-game point streak, in which he recorded 6 goals and 11 assists.

The then 18-year-old was amongst the top scorers in the league for the first half of the season, until injury trouble in mid-November and January had him miss a great deal of games. Brown finished the year with 40 points, having only played 35 games.

Though his health was questionable in early December, USA Hockey refused to name him to their World Juniors roster.

Brown’s towering body - a 6’6 frame that he uses to his advantage - was one of the reasons the Senators bargained with the New Jersey Devils to move up in the first round to snag him. But while the North Carolina native is gifted with size, his coaches and trainers have openly said his skating and overall quickness does need to largely improve.

Brown ranked 49th on ESPN Insider Corey Pronman’s 2017 list of top 100 NHL prospects.

You can read more in-depth on the player he is in this 2016 feature on Silver Seven.

It is expected Brown will be back with the Spitfires for one final season in the CHL, but he will be at training camp in Ottawa and it’s not impossible for him to make the NHL team.
