Thursday Links, News and Notes: Farewell to a Hall of Famer

Plus Lassi isn’t finished in the Finish league

  • Sad news from around the league, as Dale Hawerchuk passed away at the age of 57 from stomach cancer. The Hall-of-Famer played 16 seasons in the NHL, and most recently coached the Barrie Colts for 9 seasons before taking a leave of absence after his initial diagnosis last summer. Our condolences to Hawerchuk’s family and friends.
  • Prospect Lassi Thomson has been loaned back to Ilves. With the AHL return to play being still more of a target than a plan, this isn’t a big surprise.
  • A quiet end to a previously big story - the Senators and former Assistant GM Randy Lee have reached a settlement in the lawsuit brought against them by Lee’s victim. Terms of the settlement are undisclosed.
  • Could we get a weekend without hockey? Four series are wrapped up, and the remaining four could all wrap up by Friday.
  • Tuukka Rask’s decision to leave the bubble came after a medical emergency involving his daughter. Best wishes to the Rask family for whatever it is they are having to deal with right now.
  • Closing on a positive note - former Blues anthem singer Charles Glenn, who retired at the end of last season after 19 years due to multiple sclerosis, was able to perform for them again by recording last night’s anthems from home. I’m sure Blues fans were happy to see him back, even if it ends up being a one-time thing./
