The first GDT of the rest of your life

I'm aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive, and so are you! And there's no Bobcat Goldthwait in sight!

Let's celebrate our miraculous survival by hanging out in this GDT.

Tonight, the Binghamton Senators begin a home-and-home series with the Rochester Americans. I love these guys. I grew up in Rochester, NY, and as a city, it tries too hard to be bigger than it is--but as a minor-league sports town, it's a really fun place. Despite my eternal hatred of the Buffalo Sabres, the Amerks (and NHL '96) were where I got my hockey fix. I cheered for guys like Steve Shields and Martin Biron before I hated their guts later on. The mid-90's were not an easy time to be a Sens fan, both because of the on-ice struggles and the lack of media coverage outside of Canada, so the AHL is where I learned to appreciate the game. Thank you, Amerks.

Now lose.

The Amerks are a pretty middling team this year, but you definitely have to watch out for Marcus Foligno with his 24P (8G, 16A) in 25 games, and Cody Hodgson.

On the Binghamton side, the team played like it was their last game on Earth on Wednesday, first by not even trying through the first two periods, as if resigned to their apocalyptic fate. Then, they exploded for four goals in the third period, as if it was the last hockey they'd ever play, and won the game. The team was led, once again, by Jakob Silfverberg and got some huge support from Patrick Wiercioch and Stephane Da Costa. Da Costa, by the way, has 9P (3G, 6A) in 11 games for the B-Sens. He's looked very good playing alongside Silfverberg. Those two have some chemistry working. Wiercioch, meanwhile, looks like the game has really slowed down for him--totally different player from last year. It's no coincidence he's third on the team in scoring.

Robin Lehner broke a two-game losing streak for himself in the win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, slamming the door in the third after turning in a shaky 40 minutes. He's going to play, but there is a chance Ben Bishop, who has won six straight since a shaky start himself, will get a start as well. So... PYS, boys.
