The Best of Daniel Alfredsson: 4 Goal Game Against the Sabres

A look back at a four goal, six point effort from Alfie.

Daniel Alfredsson did so many things well during his time in Ottawa, had so many bests, and set so many records that it's easy to forget some of the feats that established him as the greatest Senator of all time.

Today's post focuses on another strong performance by Alfie against the Sabres. Alfredsson made quite the statement on November 3, 2005 when both he and Martin Havlat scored four goals to lead the Senators offensive outburst against the Buffalo and earn Ottawa a 10-4 win.

Alfie kicked off the game helping others. He assisted on both Dany Heatley's first period goals and the Sens were up by four when the dust settled after 20 minutes. After Havlat wrapped up his four goal game in the second, Alfie notched his first of the game late in the second period and then scored a hat trick of goals in the third. It was the first four goal game of his career and his four goals and six points tied team records for single game scoring.

More importantly, it was a statement game from a very good Senators team. On the road against a very good Sabres team (Buffalo would finish the season 52-24-6 while the Senators would finish 52-21-9) Ottawa put together a statement performance on the strength of one of Alfie's best games. The game marked Ottawa's ninth win of the season in just 11 games and was the best start to the season in franchise history.
