Partisans des Senateurs, welcome to the nth annual Silver Seven Sens Prospect Awards voting! This year, since you’ve all supported us so much through such an unpredictable season, we’ll put the keys in your hands. Fan votes alone will determine this year’s winners.
We had an unconventional season in just about every way, with condensed schedules, partial playoffs, and some bonus international pre-season action. Try to keep all of that in mind when voting and remember to keep in mind that we want your votes to reflect the 2021 season in particular (no matter how much we tend to let our past impressions and future projections bias our ballots (we’re only human!)).
Also, you may notice one significant omission from the ballot: we’ve graduated Drake Batherson from prospect land after consecutive Most Valuable Prospect titles in 2019 and 2020. Drake has established himself as a full-time NHLer and now we pass the crown. For those in need of a refresher, we’ve added the descriptions of each category from previous seasons:
- Most Improved Prospect: Awarded to the Sens prospect who, get this: saw the most improvement between seasons. Crazy, right?
- Biggest Disappointment: Awarded to the Sens prospect who didn’t meet the expectations placed on them during the 2021 season.
- Top Newcomer: Awarded to the most outstanding prospect who entered the Senators organization in the last year.
- Positional awards will be handed out to the organization’s top-performing defender and goaltender.
- The Trent Mann Award (gee, I wonder who came up with that name—Shaan!) is a brand-new accolade, given out to the top prospect drafted after the first two rounds. And you’ll have plenty of options there especially after the 2020 draft!
- Most Valuable Prospect (MVP): Awarded to the most outstanding Sens prospect from the 2021 season./
Despite the circumstances, we saw some great performances from prospects in Europe, the usual NCAA dominance from the NoDak Sens, a few CHL standouts, some players in Belleville who caught fire down the stretch, and most importantly, some big NHL debuts for some key prospects. And while we did say goodbye to some of our old favourites from around these parts, we had enough graduations and new additions to offset those losses. We’ve witnessed in real-time this season the transition from a stocked farm system to the beginnings of an exciting young NHL team. We can’t thank you, the reader, enough for taking this ride with us.
