Silver Nuggets: Silfverberg responds to praise; Goaltending and the playoffs

On Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators signed Zenon Konopka, and yesterday it was Erik Condra. Will today be Bobby Butler? Maybe, maybe not.

Here are today's links:

General Sens News

  • Despite all the praise heaped at Jakob Silfverberg, he still seems to think he needs another year in Sweden. For all the talk of management rushing players in, wouldn't rushing a player in who himself doesn't think he is ready be even more stupid? Another possible explanation for Silfverberg staying are his ties to Brynas, the club he has played with for his entire career. (The 6th Sens)
  • If the Ottawa Senators were to trade either Filip Kuba or Sergei Gonchar, they would have to take salary back, as otherwise it would leave them under the cap floor. Therefore trading them wouldn't necessarily open up a spot at all. (The 6th Sens)
  • With the Senators having many defencemen and forwards under contract, who will be the players that will be healthy scratches barring a trade? (Senshot)
  • While the Senators signed Condra, they are still in negotiations with Bobby Butler. If they can't reach an agreement by July 30, Butler will sign his qualifying offer and play on a two-way deal. (Ottawa Sun)
  • Copper and Blue re-ranks the forwards drafted by projecting their equivalent NHL point totals based on their league's strength. The Senators were the big winners with this approach, having four guys in the top twenty. However these four guys don't include Mika Zibanejad, who fell to 42nd. (Copper and Blue)
  • And here is an analysis that looks at the save percentage you need to allow the same number of goals as you score. Assuming the Senators score the same number of goals as last year and allow the same number of shots, the Senators will need a team save percentage of .925 to break even and roughly win half the games (or around 90 points with overtime losses). (Pension Plan Puppets)
