Silver Nuggets: Sens climb power rankings, Carkner extended

There may not be any game notes for the Ottawa Senators, but there's always something to talk about. Here's some of the headlines for the day:
  • First off, the SB Nation power rankings has the Senators at sixth in the Eastern Conference--but nowhere to be seen in the top ten (while the Atlanta Thrashers and Colorado Avalanche keep climbing). Where's the love, guys? (SB Nation)
  • The Sens were the key story on The Hockey News' top-ten, though, climbing from 16 to eight in a week. (THN)
  • UPDATE: Hey, look, CBC's in on the action, and they have the Sens ranked at seventh in the league. (CBC)
  • Looks like Matt Carkner has signed a two-year extension, but no terms available yet. (Sens Twitter)
  • Goaltender Brian Elliott's expected to start either Thursday against Nashville or Saturday against Boston. My money's on Thursday, but we'll see. (Citizen)
  • We'll probably spend a lot of the season wondering how much Anton Volchenkov might earn on his next contract, and The 6th Sens takes a good look at him with some coparables. (The 6th Sens)
  • Speaking of Volchenkov, Bryan Murray was on Hockeycentral at Noon talking about his contract negotiation: He said he's hoping he'll take term over salary, but that negotiations haven't yet begun.
  • It's easy to see why Alex Kovalev was so popular with fans in Montreal: The Sens had a few thousand students in the crowd for practice this morning, and Kovalev did some of his patented trick-moves before giving out a few souvenirs. (Citizen)
  • It's like a role reversal: Jason Spezza is contributing on the defensive side of the puck, while Mike Fisher is setting up linemates with sick passes. (Sun, and Sun)
  • Over in the Soo, Greyhounds beat writer Peter Ruicci (whose column photo is waaaay too big) thinks prospect Robin Lehner has taken the number one goaltender spot from veteran Bryce O'Hagan. (Sault Star)
  • UPDATE: The New Jersey Devils have won the Dean McAmmond sweepstakes. BLAST! (In Lou We Trust)
