Silver Nuggets: Senators visit America; Anderson starts
Having played three games in Ottawa, one in Montreal, one in Toronto and one in Newfoundland, tonight the Senators will venture outside the friendly confines of Canada and into the great unknown that is the United States. USA! USA! USA! They visit Boston, a city in shock after the Patriots collapsed against the Bills on the weekend and the Red Sox completed a shocking collapse of their own last night.
Here are today's links/Ici sont les links:
Tonight's game
- Craig Anderson has recovered from Robin Lehner's glare and will play the full game tonight. (Bruce Garrioch)
- Players not travelling to Boston include Erik the Viking, King Robin, as well as Patrick Wiercioch, Mike Hoffman and Kaspars Daugavins. (Allen Panzeri)
- Chris Phillips left the last game, and now has missed practice for two straight days, how serious is his bobo? (Dan Seguin)
- Lines in practice are: Greening - Spezza - Filatov; Michalek - Zibanejad - Alfredsson; Foligno - Smith - Butler; Condra - Konopka - Neil; Hoffman - Da Costa - Daugavins. Since Hoffman and Daugavins aren't travelling, does this mean Da Costa is a scratch? Zibanejad is definitely the leading candidate for second line centre at this moment. (James Gordon)
General Sens News
- Paul MacLean audio from this morning. I haven't listened to it, but according to James Gordon, Zibanejad is all but guaranteed a spot for opening night and Jared Cowen is getting close to it. (Senators Extra)
- And here is Gordon's summary of the audio above. (Senators Extra)
- Our favourite giggler discusses his linemates and Anderson is excited to play the full game tonight. Is anyone else a little concerned that our starting goaltender will only have had 2.5 games of action before opening night? (Senators Extra)
- If there is one player Don Brennan really likes, it is Chris Neil. Well, Zenon Konopka too. Brennan argues that Neil plays hard but fair and points out that he has never been suspended. Not my kind of player, but he has his (rare) moments. (Ottawa Sun)
- TSN previews the Ottawa Senators season. They like the addition of Nikita Filatov and think he will have a breakout season. They also point out that the same reason the Senators fans have to be excited, namely the addition of many young players, could also be the reason they struggle. Paul MacLean will have to work wonders for this team to make the post-season. (TSN)
- Peter Regin's injury is confirmed as not being serious and it is possible he might play the season opener in Detroit next Friday. (Dan Seguin)
- The Senators have been impressed with Mark Borowiecki and Paul MacLean thinks he will have a bright future with Ottawa, possibly as early as later this season. (Ottawa Sun)
- Milan Michalek hopes he can finally have an injury free season in Ottawa after having missed 16 games in each of his first two seasons. He's still managed to average 20 goals in his time here, and with some more games played (and possibly continuing chemistry with Stephane Da Costa) he can get into the mid-to-high 20s range. - Lastly, here is Alfie wearing the new jersey. (Ottawa Senators)
