Silver Nuggets: Senators look to avoid matching franchise record

The Ottawa Senators take on the Florida Panthers tonight, looking to avoid matching a franchise record of eleven consecutive home losses. Craig Anderson will start and continue his trend of never allowing a goal again.

  • The prediction panel loves the new goaltender. Five out of seven predict a Senators victory and all seven predict the Senators will allow either one or two goals. 2-1 is also a popular score, with three predicting a Senators win by that score and another two predicting a Senators loss by that score. Moral of the story: bet on the under tonight. (Sens Extra)
  • Craig Anderson will start tonight. Jesse Winchester won't play, and Jim O'Brien will play. (Ian Mendes)

General Sens News

  • Craig Anderson likes the fact that he is playing in a city where hockey is the number one sport. Ottawa has no John Elway to compete with. (Sun)
  • Daniel Alfredsson, initially expected to be back by the end of the month, is going to be out a few more weeks. That will almost certainly end the captain's streak of ten straight seasons with twenty or more goals. (Sun)
  • Cory Clouston was a bit unhappy at practice. (Sun)
  • More on future Hart Trophy winner David Rundblad. Also, since the Senators have two first round draft picks, the Senators' director of player personnel of course thinks it is a quality draft this year. (Sun)
  • Erik Karlsson has had a rough time lately, with a league worst -28 for the season (-22 in 2011). Still, Cory Clouston thinks his point production needs to be better? He is a second year defenceman who leads the team in scoring. (Citizen)
  • Speaking of Karlsson, he is mentioned as one of the linchpins for the 2014 Swedish Olympic team. Robin Lehner is mentioned as a possible, however David Rundblad is not. Of course Rundblad hasn't played an NHL game yet but I think he might have a shot for 2014 if he lives up to his potential. (Yahoo!)
