Silver Nuggets: Senators interview Paul Maclean; New French TV deal

The Binghamton Senators will resume their Calder Cup Finals series tonight as they host the Houston Aeros in Game Three. The game will be televised in Ottawa on Sportsnet Sens. The Stanley Cup playoffs will also start tonight as the Vancouver Canucks start the formality of winning the Stanley Cup. Just kidding. It should be a good series. I would be okay with either team winning, but I am cheering for Boston due to Zdeno Chara and because it should annoy Habs fans.

Here are today's links:

General Sens News

  • It has been reported that Paul MacLean, an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings for the last six seasons, has been interviewed for the Senators head coach position. (The Grand Rapids Press)
  • Sticking with the Red Wings theme, Binghamton coach Kurt Kleinendorst has been very impressed with Jared Cowen and has nicknamed him The Mule. (Ottawa Senators)
  • The Ottawa Senators will have 25 additional games broadcast in French with new French channel TVA Sports. This will bring the Sens broadcast total in French to a minimum of 50 games and possibly as high as 60. I think this is a great move by the club, getting some additional exposure in Gatineau. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Scott Niedermayer had a radio interview with director Kevin Smith, where he talked (among other things) about the incident in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals when Daniel Alfredsson allegedly attempted to shoot the puck at Niedermayer. The story doesn't say what Niedermayer said, but provides a link to the audio. I can't listen at work, so hopefully one of you can summarise. (Senshot)

More after the jump.

General Hockey News

  • Manny Malhotra, who had to have surgery to save his vision before amazingly being cleared to play, missed practice and his status is unknown for tonight. (TSN)
  • A great article on the return of NHL hockey and what it means to the man who helped bring it back, and to the community. (Globe and Mail)
  • The Dallas Stars could complete their sale by the end of the week. (Dallas Morning News)
