Silver Nuggets: Senators drop opener; Alfredsson reflects on career

So, last night didn't go as we would have liked. While it was only a pre-season game, it always sucks to lose to the Maple Leafs. From what I saw, the team looked disjointed, but still, there were some players who impressed last night.

The player who impressed me the most as Nikita Filatov. I may have been watching an average quality stream, but it was obvious to see #21 absolutely flying on the ice. The guy is fast and very smooth. He also put up two points on the night. Others who I felt had a good game were Erik Karlsson, Peter Regin and Jared Cowen, who scored both Ottawa goals.

General Sens News

  • Daniel Alfredsson reflects back on his time in Ottawa from the instability at the club at the start of his career, to the many years of contention, and now the current rebuild. (Ottawa Citizen)
  • Nikita Filatov has had about as good a start to his time in Ottawa as possible. He cut short his vacation to show up for development camp, showed up early for training camp, and then had two assists in his first game. While Allen Panzeri is right that Filatov has more or less been guaranteed a spot on the club, I am not sure I agree with him that David Rundblad has been guaranteed a spot as well. I do think Rundblad will start in Ottawa though. (Ottawa Citizen)
  • Another uninformed article from the national media, saying Jared Cowen and Robin Lehner are the rookies with the best chance to make the club from training camp. I think that Robin Lehner has no chance at all to start in Ottawa no matter how well he plays in the rest of the games. (Globe and Mail)
  • Zenon Konopka hopes someone will give him a lifetime contract, while in a sort of strange comment, Paul MacLean says about Konopka, "He's never been good enough to be with one team. Everybody likes him, but nobody likes him enough to keep him. I'm not sure why that is. I'm just glad we had an opportunity to get him." Lastly, Tim Murray expects David Rundblad, Mika Zibanejad Smith, Stephane Da Costa, Jared Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch to play at least five of the seven pre-season games. (Ottawa Sun)
  • A list of fantasy goalie rankings, Craig Anderson is #18. (City TV)
  • In today's scrimmage, Francis Lessard hit Nikita Filatov with a "ridiculous blindside" hit, forcing Filatov to leave the ice. Thankfully Filatov would later return. But can we cut Lessard now? (Steve Lloyd)
