Silver Nuggets: Season begins tonight against Sabres; Leclaire starts
First batch of headlines for the 2010-11 Ottawa Senators regular season:
- Pascal Leclaire starts the season opener. Seems like the right choice, to me. (Twitter)
- The prediction panel is back! I'm, obviously, calling a Senators win. Five of seven panelists are. (Citizen)
- Apparently Cory Clouston lets the starting goaltender know he's starting via text message, sometimes as little as 10 minutes before game time. (Sun)
- Jason Spezza says he can be better than he has been. I look forward to seeing it. (Citizen)
- But we might not see it from Spezza, because he's a game-time decision with his groin "tweak". (Sun)
- We might be jealous of those teams with solid goaltending, but most of the league have as many question marks in net as the Senators do. (Citizen)
- The Sens want to start the season "with a bang". I thought they were just going to take it easy for a while, but that's probably a better idea. (Sun)
- Pre-season predictions for Ottawa has them finishing anywhere in the East, from the top of the Northeast Division right to the bottom--and out of the playoffs. (Citizen)
- Ottawa's defence might need a bit of time to get adjusted to one another. (Citizen)
- It seems everyone is asking "burning" questions these days. I don't understand what makes that adjective so popular these days... (Citizen)
- Maybe driving a Zamboni is good luck. Jarkko Ruutu hopes so. If it is, I suggest every Sens player do it at least once this season. (Citizen)
- Ken Warren outlines five Sens players to watch this season. I'll probably just go ahead and watch all 22-23, if that's okay. (Citizen)
- Robin Lehner is still in Ottawa. But only due to visa issues. (Citizen)
- Daniel Alfredsson isn't slowing down, but he is smartening up. (Citizen)
- Filip Kuba is on schedule in his rehab. (Sens)
- To better their chances at the post-season, the Senators need to win more shootouts and get more bonus points. (Sun)
- Mike Fisher will henceforth be known as "Carrie Underwood's husband". And he's a nice guy. (USA Today)
- Good news: Jared Cowen would rather be with Ottawa this year than back in Spokane. (Spokesman-Review)
- Jonathan Cheechoo got a gig, he's back with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. (NBC Bay Area)
