Silver Nuggets: Russian air crash reaction

As you all must have heard, a plane carrying the players from KHL club Lokomotiv Yaroslavl crashed yesterday, killing everyone on board except two. This obviously greatly touched the hockey world and here are some of their reactions:

  • First and foremost follow Dmitry Chesnokov on twitter. I like his reporting in general, but yesterday he did an incredible job in very difficult circumstances. Check out his timeline for coverage of yesterday. (Dmitry Chesnokov)
  • This was a truly heartbreaking piece written by Jeff Chick who transported the family of Karlis Skrastins to a Dallas airport. Just before picking up the family, Chick found out what had happened and had to drive the family, including Skrastins' young children who were unaware of their father's death. (Jeff Chick)
  • Here is the Ottawa Senators statement on the crash, which involved three players with past ties to the Senators. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Pavol Demitra was one of those three players, and he is remembered as a great teammate and a very skilled hockey player. (Ottawa Senators)
  • The other clubs in the KHL could offer their players to Lokomotiv for this season as they attempt to rebuild their team. (Globe and Mail)
  • An article looking at the former NHL players that died in the plane crash. (Yahoo!)
  • While a lot of players have spoken out against Russian air safety, former Senator Ray Emery is one player who felt safe and would consider returning as well. (Senators Extra)
  • Every player seems to know a few of yesterday's victims, here are Daniel Alfredsson, Filip Kuba, Sergei Gonchar and Nikita Filatov's reactions. (Ottawa Citizen)

Other hockey links after the jump.

  • Single game tickets for the Senators regular season games go on sale to the general public tomorrow. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Mark Borowiecki is getting a lot of attention from Senators management these days, how much can he impress at the rookie tournament? (Ottawa Senators)
  • TSN has their fantasy point projections for the top 300 players in the NHL. Alexander Ovechkin is first at 102 points. Senators on the list include, Jason Spezza (44th with 62 points), Erik Karlsson (154th with 43 points), Milan Michalek (212th with 37 points), Nick Foligno (242nd with 34 points), Daniel Alfredsson (248th with 33 points), Peter Regin and Bobby Butler (262nd with 32 points). (TSN)
  • Sidney Crosby is recovering but isn't ready to play yet and doesn't know when he will. He did say it is more likely that he will play this season than the likelihood that he won't. (Yahoo!)
