Silver Nuggets: NHL or SEL for Zibanejad; will Yashin cash in?
Welcome to some Tuesday Nuggets. Not much of note has happened in the world of the Ottawa Senators, but that doesn't mean we haven't got a few notable stories out there. They're below.
Before that, though, a quick update about Silver Seven Hockey Night for the home-opening boo-fest against Dany Heatley and the Minnesota Wild: We're awaiting some more concrete ticket-pricing numbers since we're looking at a party of more than 50 attendees, but there's still ample room left! If you want to come, send an e-mail to AlfieGirl (e-mail address on her profile) to express interest. This should be the biggest event yet, so come on out if you can.
Now, to the links...
Senators links:
- If Mika Zibanejad doesn't make the Ottawa Senators, reports suggest he'll return to Sweden. And I have no problem with that. (6th Sens)
- Cam the fantasy hockey scout is projecting David Rundblad to score 35-ish points this season. He's got a poll on his site, so you can chime in--but explain your vote in the comments below, too. I think 35 sounds like a reasonable estimate. (Fantasy Hockey Scouts)
- Is it mid-July already? Time for the annual Alexei Yashin-might-return-to-the-NHL show! (Puck Daddy)
- Milks ponders whether Yashin is seriously considering returning, and if so, whether or not he'd be a good fit as Ottawa's second-line centre. (Black Aces)
General hockey links:
- Cassie from Raw Charge pens a hell of an article about how any city can become a hockey city--and she correctly notes the caveats of good management and good marketing. It's a great read. (Raw Charge)
- Sometimes arbitration hearings open up opportunities, and the Senators may be able to find a good young player at a bargain-basement price. Mirtle's got a list of arbitration dates on the G&M site. (Globe and Mail)
- The Edmonton Oilers acquired Andy Sutton this summer, and fans are already looking at "options" for the maligned former Senators' defenceman. (Copper & Blue)
- Chris Osgood is retiring. Let the Hall of Fame debate rage on! (Winging it in Motown)
- Interesting (if completely folly) challenge: Pick one player from each team in a given division to join the Sens. Start with the Pacific; my choices are: Corey Perry (Ducks), Brenden Morrow (Stars), Anze Kopitar (Kings), Keith Yandle (Coyotes), and Ryane Clowe (Sharks). Your picks? (Defending Big D)
