Silver Nuggets: Michalek out; Holt scores for Bingo
It's gameday today, with the Senators in Dallas to take on the Stars for a 2:00 p.m. EST game. A few notes beforehand:
- Looks like Milan Michalek is listed as "doubtful" for the game against the Stars. (Citizen)
- Despite the struggles, Cory Clouston's not going to be benching any star players to make any points. But what are people going to propose on the Team 1200's post-game show, then? (Sportsnet)
- Because of the struggles, GM Eugene Melnyk hasbeen racking up soe long-distance charges calling Clouston, Bryan Murray, a few Senators players, and Toronto radio stations to find out what's going wrong. (Citizen)
- Daniel Alfredsson's got nine games to go until his 1,000th NHL matchup; check out a great re-skin of the official site along with a Q&A with the all-time greatest Senator. (Sens)
- Not much is going right for the Binghamton Senators these days, but a moment of excitement yesterday when goaltender CHRIS HOLT! scored a goal into an empty net Friday net. Tenth goalie in AHL history to get credited with a goal, sixth to actually shoot the puck himself. Bingo won the game 4-2, with Martin St. Pierre scoring twice and Ryan Keller netting the other goal. - Ottawa's best draft pick from the 2009 Entry Draft, according to The Hockey News columnist Ryan Kennedy, was G Robin Lehner. Not a big surprise, but don't take it personally, Jared Cowen--'best draft pick' doesn't necessarily mean 'best player drafted'. (THN)
- Prospect D Patrick Wiercioch was named to the fist All-WCHA team. (WCHB)
- The OHL Playoffs have started: Lehner stopped 30 of 32 shots as Sault Ste. Marie beat the Plymouth Whalers to take a 1-0 series lead; Corey Cowick had no points, but the Ottawa 67's still beat the Niagara IceDogs to take the lead in that series. Are there more Sens prospects in the OHL playoffs?
- You know what seems like a bad idea? A lot of the "ice girls" who shovel snow wear figure skates. Wouldn't the picks rough up the ice a bit? If you're curious, NBC has a 111-photo slideshow of ice girls from this year, to complement their 118-photo slideshow from 2008-09. I don't know what to say. (NBC)
