Silver Nuggets: Maclean reaction; Alfredsson surgery successful; Sedin guarantees win

Tonight, the Stanley Cup will be awarded as the Vancouver Canucks host the Boston Bruins at 8:00 eastern time. It will either be the Bruins first Stanley Cup in 39 years or the Canucks first in their 41 year existence. According to Elliotte Friedman at the CBC, Game Six set a record with an average of 6.6 million Canadians watching, 8.1 million watching at its peak and 16.2 million Canadians watching at least some part of it. That means roughly 50% of the Canadian population watched the game at some point. This is incredible as the total population includes infants and young children.

For the record, I predict a Vancouver win tonight. Make it a Daniel Sedin guarantee!

General Sens News

  • As you all know, Paul Maclean was hired as the Senators head coach yesterday. In case you missed it, here is the press conference. The best line for me, when a reporter asks Paul Maclean if he is worried about being the coach of an organisation that hasn't had a lot of successful coaches, Murray chimes in with "Weren't you here in '07?" Bruce Garrioch also asked Maclean if he can get more out of Jason Spezza. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Gord Wilson interviews Paul Maclean. Maclean says the Senators will play a similar style to the Red Wings. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Daniel Alfredsson gives his thoughts on the Maclean hiring. He expects Ottawa to be more of a "skating" team in the future. Also, Alfie has really let his hair grow back, I like i t! (Ottawa Senators)
  • Speaking of Alfredsson, his back surgery was successful and he is optimistic he will be good to go for the start of the season. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Nick Foligno says the usual things and says there are brighter days ahead. (Ottawa Sun)
  • Binghamton coach Kurt Kleinendorst was disappointed not to get the Senators coaching job, but he wasn't surprised either. (Joy Lindsay)

More after the jump.

General Hockey News

  • Daniel Sedin guarantees the Canucks will win Game 7 and win the Stanley Cup. I don't know if Swedes have a good track record of guaranteeing wins, but I agree with him. (Yahoo!)
  • The American television ratings continue to be better than previous years featuring a Canadian club. (Yahoo!)
