Silver Nuggets: Brodeur called up, may start tonight
- Well, this is a surprise: Mike Brodeur was recalled from Binghamton today, and might start in New York tonight. This is because Brian Elliott is sick and Pascal Leclaire was hurt at morning practice. (Sharp)
- Looks like newcomer Kaspars Daugavins is lining up on the fourth line tonight against the New York Rangers, along with Zack Smith and Shean Donovan. No other lineup changes at forward: Shannon-Regin-Kovalev; Foligno-Fisher-Neil; Ruutu-Kelly-Cheechoo; Daugavins-Smith-Donovan. (Twitter)
- Also of note, Filip Kuba is skating with the team, and
is expected to return to the lineup tonight. Which has me surprisingly optimistic, considering how he'd played before going down to injury. Actually, he's going to miss his third straight, but should return next game. (Sun) - Check out the prediction panel tonight; again, hopefully Ian Mendes is right (he and I predicted the same score so it's a win-win. Well, except for the Rangers.) (Citizen)
- Daniel Alfredsson's progress is steady, we're looking at (hopefully) a return within the next week. (Sens)
- Oh yeah, and there's a good reason Alfredsson's the captain in Ottawa: He never gives up hope. (Faceoff)

- Few people were surprised by the dismissal of goalie coach Eli Wilson, although Nichols posed a pretty good question: Why now? My thinking is because people assumed Ray Emery self-destructed, people knew Martin Gerber was bad, and people expected Alex Auld and Elliott to struggle with consistency. With Leclaire fighting the puck, though, you can't deny the common denominator. (The 6th Sens)
- On the topic of goalies, our friend Jonathan Willis looks at the history of Ottawa Senators goaltending. It isn't pretty. (Hockey or Die)
- UPDATE: SBN's weekly Power Rankings are out. The Senators didn't make it, obviously. (SBNation)
- In the last month and a half, Ryan Keller only has six assists for Binghamton, after scoring 13G and 9A in his first 20 games this season. Then again, because of a couple recalls to Ottawa he's only played 10 games in that month and a half, but he's still fighting through a slump. (Press & Sun Bulletin)
- Coinciding with that slump (and with Ottawa being ravaged by injury and, in turn, raving the B-Sens lineup for healthy bodies), the B-Sens are 2-6 in the last eight.
- And a quick Robin Lehner update: He's 13-7-3 for the Soo Greyhounds, with three shutouts, a GAA of 2.75, and an SP of .919.
- Christoph Schubert's having a good time in Atlanta these days, playing pretty good minutes and--most of all--as a defenceman. Too bad he wasn't named to the German Olympic roster (I wonder if he's the only German NHLer not to make it)? (Faceoff)
- There are actually some really funny Habs sites out there, apparently, including these guys, who made a mock-up of Bob Gainey's Facebook page for the last 18 months or so. Among the highlights? "Bob Gainey is watching season 4 of 24 all day" Guy Carbonneau: "Bob? It's the trade deadline today. Bob? BOB???" (Mauvais Oeil)
