Silver Nuggets: A young D-corps, featuring the Princess of Power

A look at Ottawa Senators headlines for today:

  • I expected immediate chemistry between Sergei Gonchar and whoever he plays with, but apparently it takes time for that kind of thing to develop. (Sun)
  • I haven't seen a big hit from him yet, but apparently Eric Gryba has been given the 'E-Train' moniker. I think it's a little early, even if he does play "more rougher" than other defenders. (Sun)
  • As if Cory Clouston wasn't anxious enough to juggle lines in the past, the Sens' forward depth will likely make it even more common this season. (Citizen)
  • Jared Cowen has definitely improved significantly, from the rookie camp (not great) to his first pre-season game (not great) to the next two (pretty good). (Black Aces)
  • Listen, I know it's not fair, but I really want to nickname Craig Schira 'Princess of Power'. Also, he might not be as well-known as some others, but he's still trying to make an impression on the Senators' young blue line. (Winnipeg Free Press)
  • Robin Lehner 's dad, who we all refer to alternatively as Robin Lehner's dad and Henrik Lundqvist's goalie-coach but is apparently named Michael Lehner, put the Senators' goaltending prospect on the fast track. (Sun)
  • Prospect Mark Stone has started the season with a bang, with a goal and five assists in two games, good for second in points in the WHL. His second game he had a goal, assist, and a fight -- a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. (WHL)
  • Dean McAmmond's back on his feet. At least a little bit, as he's been given a pro tryout with the Islanders this year. (Lighthouse Hockey)
  • Jonathan Cheechoo, on the other hand, has been released by the Dallas Stars from his tryout. (Defending Big D, SBN Dallas)
  • And we thought Canadiens fans were taking the pre-season too seriously: "Two games into the pre-season and it’s clear there’s no possible way for Carey Price to succeed in Montreal." Really? No possible way he could succeed? (Toronto Sun)
