Silver Nuggets: 2013 NHL Trade Deadline rumourzzzz!

Look, its that time of year. This stuff is coming at you from everywhere, but lets talk about it. Who could we see in a shiny new Senators uniform when the Sens play the Sabres Friday?

I want to go on record as saying I think the Senators will (and should) stand pat. They have shown that being cautious and patient with their young players has worked very well the last couple years and that overspending at the deadline or in Free Agency is a road that only leads to trouble. They also showed last year, with the addition of Matt Gilroy at the deadline, that small moves really don't help make a difference.

They have shown a penchant to go for need though, with the addition of Ben Bishop for a 2nd rounder when Craig Anderson was hurt, and with a number of players on the shelf, the rumour is that Bryan Murray is looking for what Bryan Murray is always looking for: a top-6 forward.

There are two schools of thought:

1) pick up a player who won't cost much in the way of good prospects or picks that can help the team now and in the future.

2) pick up the impact player to compliment Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson that this team needs with Daniel Alfredsson on his last legs.

The trouble is, while some of those players (#2) may be available at the deadline, the prices are often too damn high.

With that said, here are a collection of players said to be available that fit into one or both of these categories.

Curtis Glencross: Been a fair amount of talk about him around this site and others due to his availability, scoring prowess, cheap contract, and tie to the Murrays. Would be a good piece, but not a game changer.

Jason Pominville: With the Sabres captain being asked to submit a list of teams he WILL NOT go to (8), it appears he is on the market. About a 5.5 mill cap hit, but a good player in his prime who can provide offence and plays the right side.

Marian Gaborik: With the Rangers fighting for their playoff lives, not sure why their top goal-scorer is available, but I've always loved Marian. He's exciting, he's a hell of a talent and I think he'd thrive under MacLean where he has been stifled under Torts. Big cap hit for next year, but that's what elite talent costs these days.

Derek Roy: An Ottawa boy, which the Murrays love, but Roy would be a pure rental for the Senators, and I don't think the Murrays want to go down that road.

Ales Hemsky: Due to always being either injured or on the trading block, I'm not sure enough people respect what a talented player Hemsky is. He can be a wizard on the ice, and would for sure inject offence into the Senators lineup.

So what say you? Any of these? Any d-men, like Mark Streit? Who do you want, and what would you give up? Like I said, I think the Sens stand pat, maybe trade Ben Bishop for a prospect or pick or as a package for one of these types of players.

Side note: We've got an extra ticket for the Silver Seven Game Night coming up on April 27 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Tickets are just $40! If you're interested in coming to the last regular season home game of the season with 16 other Silver Seveners, e-mail Adnan and he'll let you know what to do.
