Silver Nuggets: 2011-2012 schedule released today; One day to the draft

At 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, the NHL released its regular season schedule for the 2011-2012 season. I hope to increase the number of games I go to this season, so hopefully the schedule is weekend friendly. Last season, I went to three Sens games in Ottawa, two Sens games in Toronto, plus a preseason Sens game in Toronto. I am always up for a trip to Ottawa to see the Sens, so I will be organising more Silver Seven Game Nights later this season!

Also, the winner of the Silver Seven Player Pool was Jeffrey Lebowski, while Mark Parisi was triumphant in the series prediction pool. Jeffrey, if you can contact me with an address, I can send you some cheap Sens gear. Items being considered are Ottawa Senators branded measuring tapes, water bottles and doormats. BorisB finished in second place in the prediction pool, and will get a prize from Mark.

Here are today's links:

General Sens News

  • Here is the 2011-2012 Ottawa Senators regular season schedule. They will open on the road against Detroit on Friday, October 7. The home opener is the next night against Toronto. Correction: The Leafs game is in Toronto, the home opener is against the Minnesota Wild on October 11. (Ottawa Senators)
  • Another trading Jason Spezza rumour, with Columbus once again coming up. (Ottawa Sun)
  • Mark Reed of the Owen Sound Attack will be the second assistant coach for Paul Maclean, joining Dave Cameron. The Attack beat Cameron's Majors in the OHL Final. (Ottawa Sun)
  • What would have happened if the Senators didn't trade for Craig Anderson? Without the success at the end of the season, Bryan Murray might have lost his job. Did playing in front of excellent goaltending help Ottawa's AHL callups in later winning the Calder Cup? (The 6th Sens)
  • If Ottawa stays at number six, they are unlikely to get a player who will make an impact right away. I guess, that could be true even at #1. It's not a problem anyway. Still, I hope our pick plays in the NHL next season if possible. (Metronews)
  • The Senators will play seven preseason games. They will visit Toronto, Montreal and Boston once each, and also host the same clubs once each. The one other game will be playing Winnipeg in Newfoundland for Kraft Hockeyville. Ottawa's preseason will get started on September 19 in my lovely home town of Toronto! (Ottawa Senators)

More after the jump.

General Hockey News

  • If Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is picked first overall, it will be the first time a player from the WHL is taken first since Chris Phillips in 1996. (NHL)
  • The Dallas Stars are willing to trade down from the #14 pick, hoping to recoup a third round pick that they traded for Jamie Landenbrunner. So #21 and a third rounder for #14 then? (TSN)
  • Steven Stamkos will be on the cover of EA Sports NHL 12.
