Sens Week Ahead : Nov 15 to 21

A short week with only 2 games

First it's a visit to the overachieving Flames, then the Sens finish out their season series with the Predators.

Senators @ Flames

Game 17, Saturday, November 15th, 10:00pm
CBC
Previous game
Coyotes, Thursday, November 13th
Next game
Ducks, Tuesday, November 18th
Hot
Mark Giordano - 13P (5G, 8A) in last 8 GP
Cold
Devin Setoguchi - 0P in 10 GP

Calgary comes in to the week sitting ninth overall, much higher than anybody was expecting at the start of the season.

Leading the way for the Flames is Mark Giordano, with 20 points in 18 games so far, and an eight game point streak going. Jonas Hillier was largely responsible for the team's success in the first few games, posting a .946 SV% during their 7 game point streak, but has cooled somewhat down to an overall normal level of .922 since then.

Their power play has been reasonably solid, ranking 10th in the league. The penalty kill is a weakness, however, at only 75% it comes in at 26th.

There is a shoe waiting to drop for the Flames, though. Their possession stats are absolutely terrible, at 43.6 CF% at 5 on 5. That's not a good sign, and at 18 games they're getting close to that being a solid predictive number.

Mikael Backlund, Joe Colborne and Micheal Ferland are all on IR.

Predators @ Senators

Game 18, Thursday, November 20th, 7:30pm
TSN5
Previous game
@Maple Leafs, Tuesday, November 18th
Next game
Panthers, Saturday, November 22nd
Hot
Filip Forsberg - 13P (7G, 6A) in last 7 GP
Cold
Olli Jokinen - 0P in 16 GP

The Predators have cooled ever so slightly since their hot start, but are still putting in a strong season. Like Calgary, they've also got 22 points but with fewer games played and much better underlying numbers.

Any preseason concerns about Pekka Rinne seem unfounded so far, he's posting a solid .928 SV%. Filip Forsberg leads not just the team, but also all rookies in both goals and assists with 8 and 12 respectively. James Neal and Mike Robert are putting up respectable production as well with 13 points each in 16 games.

The big weakness is the penalty kill. They're ranked 29th in the league with a 72.1%. It's a weakness that is blunted however, by being the least penalized team in the league. They have been a very disciplined team this season at just over 7 PIM/GP.
