Sens sign Christian Jaros to 1 year, $750k deal

The young defenseman also got himself better pay in the AHL

You might have missed it last night amidst everything....going on in the world....but the Ottawa Senators signed Christian Jaros to a 1 year, $750k deal.

The invaluable CapFriendly actually broke the news:

It’s a two-way deal, though the big win here for Jaros is the $250k salary to play in the minors. Jaros will be in tough to make the Sens’ roster after the team acquired Josh Brown and Erik Gudbranson via trade and seemingly closed off two of the spots that might have been available to the young Slovak. And It seems like an awfully long time ago now, but the Sens also signed Artem Zub earlier this off-season to supplement their blue line. All this to say that Jaros possibly saw the writing on the wall, and thus getting that AHL pay bump is no small win for him.

It’s also something of a noteworthy development in that the Sens’ organization has, until recently, been somewhat reluctant to pay top coin for AHL vets. But after a few surprising signings at the NHL level, Dadonov of course being the most impressive, perhaps the organization also sees some value in helping their AHL squad compete for the Calder Cup. Regardless, this season very well could be make or break for Jaros’ chance of becoming a full-time NHLer as he’ll be 25 by the time next season conludes. No doubt he will be plenty motivated.
