Senators select Darren Kramer 156th overall
One day, Chris Neil will no longer be with the Ottawa Senators, and Zack Smith can't be asked to do all the fighting himself. Enter Darren Kramer, a 6'1", 202lb center--and teammate of Jared Cowen on the Spokane Chiefs this year.
Kramer accumulated 306 PIMs in 68 games with the Chiefs in his first season, but despite his role as the team's face surgeon, he instantly earned respect from both his coach and teammates with his overall play:
"He’s been a breath of fresh air," [Chiefs Head Coach Don] Nachbaur said. "He doesn’t wear a letter but this is a credit to him, I’d name him as one of the leaders on this hockey team and I think every guy in that locker room feels the same."
"He has that charisma around him, you want him around you because he’s such a great guy," forward Tyler Johnson, an alternate captain, said. "He’s a leader on our team even coming in late. You can’t say enough about him."
Kramer is more than a goon. As Neate Seager of Yahoo's Buzzing The Net notes, his love of peanut butter has also driven him to create something the world has never seen before.
Bryan Murray has spent much of the draft adding skill, and he's now added toughness as well.
