Senators recall Daugavins, demote St. Pierre
It's going to be a big couple of months for 22-year-old Kaspars Daugavins. Tomorrow the 2006 third-round draft pick (91 overall) will make his NHL debut as the Ottawa Senators visit the New York Rangers, and then in February he'll play for Latvia in the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Not bad at all.
Who knows what we can expect from Daugavins, although I don't think we can expect miracles--he'll likely play third or fourth line minutes, similar to what Martin St. Pierre and Zack Smith have been doing. Still, it will be nice to get a first-hand view in an NHL game of a recent draft pick.
On the other hand, St. Pierre can't be very happy with his short stint with the Senators. You can't say you'd be surprised, though, with St. Pierre not even getting any shots during his three games, and coming up with a -2 rating. Hopefully he jumps back into AHL action and contributes to the B-Sens again.
