Senators lose 1-0 in shootout to Sabres

The Ottawa Senators suffered a rare loss to the Buffalo Sabres tonight after failing to score any goals through 65 minutes and a shootout. If you don't put pucks in the net, you cannot win games -- just ask Pascal Leclaire.

Sens Killer: Ryan Miller
This goes without saying. Miller made 32 saves during the game, and stopped all three of Ottawa's shootout attempts. He was his usual spectacular self, and the Senators simply could not solve him tonight.

Sens Hero: Brian Elliott
Elliott did everything you could ask of him tonight. His positioning was exceptional as he made countless huge saves throughout the game (31 of them), but unfortunately allowed a single shootout goal (more on that later). It's a shame that a performance like that didn't result in a win, but such was the case tonight.

Sens Killer: Thomas Vanek
Vanek led all players on the ice with 5 shots on goal, and was the only player to find the twine tonight. He did that on a shootout attempt where he fired off a slapshot that beat Elliott up high.

Sens Killer: Lack of goal scoring
For those wondering, the Senators haven't scored a goal since the first period of the Edmonton game on Monday. That's well over 160 minutes without scoring (in their home rink, no less). Sigh.

More of that, please: Erik Karlsson
Karlsson had one of his best games of the season tonight in both ends. He had a couple of shot blocks, some takeaways, and four shots on goal (which was tied with Peter Regin for the team lead). But nothing he did tonight was better than his last ten minutes, where every time he got the puck he performed some of the most stunning end-to-end rushes he's ever done. He created some great scoring chances in the final moments; it's just a shame that none ended up with a goal.
