Senators humiliated in 5-2 loss to Penguins

If you thought blowing a 3-1 lead to Montreal on Saturday was depressing, I hope you didn't bother watching this game. The Ottawa Senators were embarrassed, humiliated, and disgraced for two straight periods, and though they decided to finally show up in the third period, it was far too late.

I'm not going to dwell too long on this loss, as I'd like to get on with my night. But here is a bit of a recap:

Sens Hero: Chris Campoli
Despite the lopsided nature of the score, Campoli finished with a +1 rating and also tallied one of the team's two goals in the 20+ minutes of ice time he saw tonight.

Sens Zeroes: Sergei Gonchar and Erik Karlsson
Both Gonchar and Karlsson finished the game at a team worst -3. Though Sergei did manage to get an assist on Daniel Alfredsson's powerplay goal, the team can't afford to have him allowing so many goals on his watch.

Sens Killers: Mark Letestu, Evgeni Malkin
Though you likely only recognize one of these names, both players ended the game with a goal and an assist, and generally seemed to cause the Senators problems.

Sens Killer part deux: Brent Johnson
Johnson made 32 saves on the night, including a number of very pretty ones. With a performance like that, it's no wonder Marc-Andre Fleury is warming the bench.

Lehner sees action for the second straight game
As excited as we all are to see the Swedish netminding prospect play, I think it's safe to say that none of us want it to happen because our starter lets in 5 goals. Brian Elliott did just that, though it's hard to fault him too much -- the team in front of him was in complete disarray during his time in net.

Robin Lehner was perfect in his half of the game, but he only faced 7 shots, and so that is less a testament to his performance and more to the improved play of the team in front of him once Clouston yanked Elliott.

Also, despite playing under 40 minutes in two games, Lehner is now dominating NHL.com's leaderboard.

What about Winnie?
Jesse Winchester took an accidental high stick from goalie Brent Johnson in the second period, and didn't return to the ice after that. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, and he is ready to return next game.

Stat of the Night: Chris Neil, 21 PIM
Neil spent a good portion of the game in the penalty box tonight. Here's a look at some of the infractions he ended up serving time for:

• Fighting
• Roughing (x 2)
• 10 minute misconduct/
