Senators fall to Boston 4-3 in shootout, again
Sens' heroes: Milan Michalek, Daniel Alfredsson
Michalek finished the night with two goals, an assist, and +2. He also got the most important goal of the game, one that game with just under 20 seconds left. More on that later. Captain Alfie was up to his usual tricks, with a goal and an assist on the night, +2, and even made a key save late in the first to keep the team ahead.
Sens killer: Michael Ryder
Ryder had one of Boston's second period goals, four shots, and was the only player that scored in the shootout.
Highlight of the night: Michalek's late goal
The Sens were down 3-2 with thirty second left in the third period after failing to score on a powerplay. Coach Cory Clouston called a time out, and set up a play. Sure enough, the set play worked. Milan Michalek, who was tucked away on the far side, received a pass from Alex Picard and streaked in on goal. He somehow snuck a weak one by Tim Thomas to put the game into overtime.
Oh no, not again: Sens lose a shootout
As has happened far too many times the past few years, Ottawa missed out on an extra point due to their incompetence in the shootout. None of Ottawa's four shooters could put it in the net, despite Brian Elliott holding up his end of the bargain and stopping all three initial shots. So it goes.
Telling stat: Bruins 3 for 5 on the powerplay
Ottawa has shown time and time again that they're pretty fond of taking untimely penalties, and that was evident tonight. Not only did Ottawa take a few too many, but Boston also capitalized on three of them. In case you didn't just do the math in your head, that was all of their goals during the game.
