Senators by the Numbers: #73

A look at every Senator to wear the number 73. No Senator has ever worn the number 72.

Jarkko Ruutu L 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011

Born in Vantaa, Finland in 1975, Ruutu was drafted 68th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 1998. Ruutu is part of an athletic family. His younger brother Tuomo plays for the Devils and his older brother Mikku is a retired pro and is now a scout for the Senators. Ruutu spent one season playing for Michigan Tech before returning to Finland and turning pro with HIFK, spending three seasons in his home country, before returning to North America to spend a year with the Syracuse Crunch. He made his NHL debut with Vancouver in 1999-2000, playing eight games. He broke through and became an NHL regular in 2002-2003. He signed with Ottawa as a free agent in 2008. He played the better part of three seasons with the Senators and was known as pest, twice suspended during his time in the capital. As part of Ottawa's rebuild, he was traded to the Ducks for a sixth round pick in 2011. Since 2011-2012, he has played for Jokerit in Finland.

Guillaume Latendresse L 2012-2013

Born in Sainte-Catherine, Quebec in 1987, Latendresse was drafted 45th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2005. He spent his junior career in the QMJHL, spending three seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. He won a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Juniors in 2005, but was left off the 2006 team because he was suffering the effects of a concussion after being on the receiving end of an elbow to the head by Steve Downie. In his first three seasons with the Habs, a young Latendresse showed offensive promise, but he was under constant scrutiny. He slumped to start the 2009-2010 season, and was traded for another struggling young player: Benoit Pouliot. His final two seasons with the Wild were marred by injuries including a sports hernia, a torn labrum, and recurring hip and concussion problems. He was accused of being out of shape by Wild owner Craig Leipold. He signed with the Senators as a free agent in 2012. Injuries limited his playing time and he was often a healthy scratch. He was not retained by the Sens. He is currently a member of ZSC Lions in Switzerland.

Best #73: Guillaume Latendresse

He helped launch the career of one Bonk's Mullet. Need I say more? Plus, Ruutu's a punk.
