Senators by the Numbers: #65

Erik Karlsson D 2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014

Born in Landsbro, Sweden in 1990, Karlsson was drafted 15th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2008. Before joining the Senators, he played in the Swedish Elite League for both Frölunda's J20 and Senior teams. Karlsson made the Senators out of training camp in 2009 put was sent to Binghamton after nine games. Recalled permanently one month later, he finished his rookie season with 26 points. He played in his first All-Star Game in his second season. Karlsson had a breakout season the following year, leading all defensemen in scoring and winning the Norris Trophy. After the lockout, Karlsson started the 2013 season strong, only to have his campaign interrupted by a serious Achilles injury. He returned quickly and in time for the playoffs but was not 100%. He returned to form in 2013-2014, winning a silver medal with Sweden at the Sochi Olympics as well as being named top defensemen. Once again, Karlsson led all NHL defensemen in scoring.
