Senators by the Numbers: #38

Vladimir Ruzicka C 1993-1994

Born in Most, Czechoslovakia in 1963, Ruzicka was drafted 74rd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1982. He remained in Czechoslovakia until 1989-90; he played for CHZ Litvinov and was league MVP twice. A member of the Czechoslovakian national team, he won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo and a gold medal at the 1985 World Championship. He joined the Oilers in 1989-90, winning the Stanley Cup. He signed with the Senators as a free agent in the summer of 1993 and he spent just one season in the capital before returning to Europe to continue his career. He was a member of the Czech National Team that won gold in Nagano in 1998 and retired from playing in 2000. Upon retirement, he was appointed head coach of Slavia Praha, and has twice won the Czech Extraliga as a coach. He is also currently coach of the Czech National Team.

Jason Zent L 1996-1997, 1997-1998

Born in Buffalo in 1971, Zent was drafted 44^th overall by the New York Islanders in 1989. After four seasons at the University of Wisconsin, he was traded by the Islanders to the Senators for Ottawa's 5^th round pick (Bubba Berenzweig) in the 1996 Draft. After two seasons with the Senators he signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1998. He finished his playing career in 2000 after two seasons with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL. Zent currently serves as the U.S. Representative for the NHL Alumni. His responsibilities include pursuing opportunities for expansion and outreach in the United States.

John Emmons C 1999-2000, 2000-2001

Born in San Jose in 1974, Emmons was drafted 122^nd overall by the Calgary Flames in 1993. After four seasons playing for Yale, he joined the Dayton Bombers in the ECHL. Emmons played the majority of his career in the IHL and AHL. He signed with the Senators in 1998 and made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators in 1999-2000. He was traded to Tampa Bay in 2001 for Craig Millar. In 2002 he signed with Eisbaren Berlin, playing his final season of pro hockey in 2002-2003. He currently lives in Michigan and is the vice president of Multi Bank Securities, Inc.

Brad Smyth R 2002-2003

Born in Ottawa in 1973, Smyth was undrafted after a successful junior career with the London Knights of the OHL. Smyth played in the ECHL, IHL, and AHL before bouncing around the NHL, but spent the majority of his career in the minors. He signed with Ottawa as a free agent in 2002 and the 12 games he played for the Senators were his last in the NHL. He went on to play in Finland, Germany, Austria, Britain, Italy, and France. He returned to North America in 2012, signing with the Denver Cutthroats of the CHL. He ended his 20-year playing career in June, 2013, becoming an assistant coach and assistant director of hockey operations with the Cutthroats.

Erik Condra R 2010-2011

Born in Trenton, Michigan in 1986, Condra was drafted 211^th overall by the Senators in 2006. Condra had a very successful college career; he spent four years at the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, he joined the Binghamton Senators. He split the 2010-11 season between the NHL and the AHL, and was returned to the BSens for their Calder Cup run in 2011. He wore #38 during his first season with the Sens before switching to #22.
