RTP Daily: September 1st, Flyers and Canucks Live On
More hockey as both series go to game 6
Tuesday’s Games:
Philadelphia Flyers 4, New York Islanders 3 (OT), NYI Leads Series 3-2
After leading the game 3-1, the Flyers gave their fans a scare when they allowed the Islanders to tie the game. They did, however, show some expected resiliency and came through in overtime to force a Game 6. As with every good Flyers game, a ton of credit needs to be handed to Carter Hart.
For Ottawa Senators fans, watching JG Pageau do so well on the Island brings both pain and joy. Today, though, the nostalgia was in full force when we all saw our once beloved Derick Brassard score a beautiful tying goal. To be fair, this series has been filled with some good quality goals, and both comeback goals by the Isles were extremely fun to watch.
The battle continues on Thursday and while the Isles will be anxious to close off the series, the Flyers will have the momentum and desperation to possibly push a Game 7. We can only hope so.
Vancouver Canucks 2, Las Vegas Golden Knights 1, VGK Leads Series 3-2
Another elimination put on hold, as the Vancouver Canucks were forced to trust young goalie Thatcher Demko after Jacob Markstrom (who has been very good in these playoffs) got injured. Luckily for the Canucks, Demko might have had the best night of his entire young career to help the team see another game. The Vegas Golden Knights played the usual strong and offensive game out-shooting the Canucks 43-17 yet somehow were still not able to seal the deal. Both teams had a hard time scoring for the first period and most of the second, until Shea Theodore broke the scoreless tie with one gorgeous goal that will probably be on the highlight reels for a long time to come.
Again luckily for the Canucks, their eighth shot on net by Brock Boeser tied the game seconds later. Boeser was also key in the game winning goal by Elias Pettersson which gave the Canucks another fighting chance. While the Canucks really fought through last night to keep the series going, if they hope to see a Game 7 they will need to be much better. The Vegas Golden Knights are an extremely difficult team to beat on the best of nights, while anything can happen in the playoffs I don’t see the Golden Knights losing twice in a row let alone drop 3 games.
