Playoff Open Thread: June 15

How will the Bolts respond?

We are officially underway in the third round with both opening games being completed. One result was somewhat a surprise and the other, well did anyone really expect the Habs to win Game 1 in Vegas?

Last Night’s Game

Montreal Canadiens 1, Las Vegas Golden Knights 4 (VGK leads series 1-0)

Most are expecting that the Golden Knights handle the Canadiens quite easily but a rollover from Game 1 was maybe a little too easy. While the score doesn’t really reflect it, Carey Price actually had a decent game. Habs started off the period with a good effort and lots of speed but once the Golden Knights got into the game, it was a quick ending for their effort. The one bright moment for the Habs was Cole Caufield scoring his first playoff goal with his parents in attendance, these are the beauty moments we all love to watch.

The Golden Knights are collectively a good team but this post season is really being defined by the incredible performances of Marc-Andre Fleury who has re-discovered himself into the top-tier playoff goalie he once was. As much as I dislike the Knights, you really cannot cheer against MAF, especially when he annoys Brendan Gallagher.

Tonight’s Game

Tampa Bay Lightning @ New York Islanders @  8:00 PM (NYI leads the series 1-0)

While there is a lot of focus on the Knights vs Habs series, I think the Islanders will make this series worth watching. You’re never really in trouble until you lose at home but the Lightning need to get an advantage tonight by tying the series because this Islanders team is very good at beating the odds and fighting back.
