Joey Daccord Signs Three-Year Extension With Ottawa

The deal includes a one-way contract in the final year.

The Ottawa Senators have locked up their top goaltending prospect, signing Joey Daccord to a three-year extension.

The year-to-year NHL/AHL salary breakdown is $700K/175K in year one, $750K/$300K in year two, and the third year is a one-way deal worth $800K.

“We’ve been very pleased with Joey’s development,” said GM Pierre Dorion. “He’s a big, athletic goalie and an excellent puck handler who exudes the necessary confidence to compete at the highest level. He’s become a valuable asset within our pool of goaltending prospects.”

After a college career with the Arizona State Sun Devils, Daccord made his NHL debut in April of 2019, stopping 35 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The 2019-20 campaign was his first professional season, and was where Daccord truly emerged as the Senators’ future in net. He posted a record of 15-6-2 with the Belleville Senators, to go with a .915SV% and 2.61GAA.

A seventh-round pick of the Senators in 2015, Daccord will get a chance to prove that he is the team’s goalie of the future with this new contract. Another two years with what should be a good Belleville team, and then a one-way deal to share the net with Matt Murray in 2022-23.

Where things get complicated is the Seattle expansion draft next summer(?). The Senators will be allowed to protect one goaltender, and it seems all but a foregone conclusion that the team will protect Murray if he has a bounce-back season. This would leave Marcus Högberg, Filip Gustavsson, and Daccord eligible to be taken by the league’s newest team.

With the 24 year-old North Andover, Massachusetts native signed, the Senators still have new deals to work out with Connor Brown, Chris Tierney, Christian Jaros, J.C. Beaudin, and Filip Chlapik.

Brown, Jaros, and Tierney have all filed for arbitration. Their hearings are scheduled for October 20th, November 7th, and November 8th, respectively.
