Ottawa Senators Song Dedications: Valentine's Edition

Songs that people in the Senators organization had dedication today.

When I was in high school, our student council did these things called, "Carol-Grams" as a fundraiser on Valentine's Day. You were able to request a song, pay a dollar, and a small choir of students would find your valentine in class and sing to them. The sends got wind of this idea and ran with it. Here's what my "sources" have told me that the Sens are sending to each other. (I suggest you click the song links to get a real feel for the emotion coming through - or so you understand my jokes if you aren't familiar with a song)

Jean-Gabriel Pageau to Bryan Murray and Dave Cameron: At Last - Etta James

JGabby is finally getting his chance in Ottawa and he's letting BMurr and Cam'ron know how much he appreciates it. Word is he busted in on one of their meetings and belted out: "At last my love has come along. My lonely days are over and life is like a song." His voice was so terrible that Cam'ron finally went through with benching him. #TheMoreYouKnow

Eugene Melnyk to Senators Fans: Never Tear Us Apart - INXS

Let's face it, Eugene is never going away, and he wants us to know it. He wants us to know he's "committed" to us forever and that the NHL will "never tear us apart' [insert cheesy guitar riff here].

The world to Curtis Lazar: U Smile - Justin Bieber

This may or may not be up on my office wall.

The Senators to Jason Spezza: Like We Never Loved At All - Faith Hill ft. Tim McGraw

Sometimes Valentine's Day can bring up some residual feelings of hurt and anguish and the Sens can be a little loopy, let's be honest. The Sens sent this to Jason Spezza, along with a half-eaten tub of cookie-dough ice cream and a VHS of Spezza giggling with Heatley and Alfie.

Bryan Murray to Chris Neil: Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day

Before Bryan trades Chris to Nashville, he wants to let him know how much he cares about him. Bryan was thinking of sending a song from the Rat Pack, but Kyle Turris suggested this timeless classic still heard at high school graduations everywhere. Bryan knew it was perfect just by the title. Didn't even need to hear Billie Joe Armstrong's tender voice sing the words: "I hope you had the time of your life."

Curtis Lazar to Chris Phillips: Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

Rumour has it that when Curtis is on the couch with his milk and cookies, he stares at Chris and swoons over his leadership skills, humming "Did you ever know that you're my hero?" gently.

Everybody (me) to Erik Karlsson: You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate

Not typically romantic, but the Norse God with the flow of an angel deserves to hear this:

"I believe in miracles
Where you from, you sexy thing?
Sexy thing, you
I believe in miracles
Since you came along, you sexy thing"

*Mrs. O looks at picture, faints accordingly.*

Chris Neil and Chris Phillips to Bryan Murray: If I Can't Have You - The BeeGees

The Chrises want to stay in Ottawa. They have history here, they've committed long-term. Sure, the grass may be greener (by greener, I mean actually existent) on the other side, but this Valentine's Day, Neil and Philly want Bryan to know that they only want to be here If they can't be here, they "don't want nobody, baby." Enjoy retirement, boys.

Bryan Murray to Chris Stewart: I Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon

It's no secret that Murray loves Stewart. He's been after him for a while now, but can't seem to find the courage to tell him. The lyrics from REO Speedwagon's power ballad were so perfect, Bryan knew this was the right time. (Bryan's thoughts in italics)

I tell myself that I can't hold out forever [I have to make some kind of offer]
I said there is no reason for my fear [except Tim...and spiders]
Cause I feel so secure when we're together [You bring the grit that players feel safe]
You give my life direction [The Sens need your character]
You make everything so clear

Erik Karlsson to Marc Methot: Let's Stay Together - Al Green

Erik finally has his partner back after putting their relationship on hold while Methot was taking time to heal. Erik tried to make it work with other partners, but no one compared to Marc. For Valentine's Day, Erik is letting Marc know how he feels. Hopefully this convinces Marc to stay in Ottawa.

BONUS:

The Senators entire organization and fan base to Daniel Alfredsson: Thank You - Johnny Reid

I think this sums it up:

"Thank you
For sharing all your love and all your dreams.
Thank you for every tear of happiness I've cried.
Thank you."

So there you have it, folks. The Sens are a sentimental bunch and they don't care who knows it.

Thanks for reading. If you have some dedications of your own, share them in the comments section, we'd love to read them. Happy Valentine's Day!
