Updates from Training Camp

Injuries, waivers, recalls and players not going anywhere

A number of small pieces of individual news in the past 24 hours or so out of training camp.

Mark Fraser

This one is short and sweet - he was placed on waivers yesterday, to be assigned to Binghamton if he clears today at noon. Little reason to think he won't at this point.

The bigger part of this is what it means to Chris Wideman - with only 7 healthy D left in camp he isn't going anywhere for now.

Andrew Hammond

News came out after practice yesterday that Andrew Hammond tweaked his groin during the skate and would be out for the game in Montreal last night. Instead of the Hamburglar it was Craig Anderson starting, and Matt O'Connor was called back up right away to act as back-up.

Bryan Murray confirmed this morning that Hammond would be out for at least two weeks, so O'Connor gets to start the season in Ottawa instead of Bingo. There are two back to backs in that stretch, creating the small chance that O'Connor might get his first regular season NHL action a whole lot earlier than expected. Tomorrow night's starter might give a bit of a clue on that.

Colin Greening

Contract status doesn't always save you. Greening will be officially placed on waivers at noon, for reassignment to Bingo if he clears.

This brings the roster down to 23 players, at least until (if) Chris Phillips returns from injury. This Senators can keep both Shane Prince and Matt Puempel on the roster for the start of the regular season if they choose to do so.
