Ottawa Senators To Retire Chris Phillips’ #4
The Senators’ all-time games played leader will have his number lifted to the rafters.
The Ottawa Senators announced ahead of tonight’s home opener that they will retire Chris Phillips’ jersey, #4. The defenceman is the franchise leader in games played with 1,179, donning the Senturion from 1997 to 2015. He never played for another franchise.

Originally drafted 1st overall by the Sens in 1996, Phillips went on to have a storied career as a steady, consistent blueliner. He was a key part of the team’s dominance in the early 2000s, playing 103 playoff games, and helping the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007. Phillips served as an alternate captain for his final seven seasons with the Senators.
Now in his retirement, Phillips is helping the community as one of the Senators’ alumni ambassadors. He’s devoted plenty of time to philanthropic efforts, and Ottawa locals will also know him as a founder of the successful Big Rig brewery.
Phillips’ jersey retirement ceremony will take place on February 18th against the Buffalo Sabres. His #4 will be the Senators’ third retired jersey, along with Daniel Alfredsson (#11) and Frank Finnigan (#8).
