It was a pretty even keel week for the Ottawa Senators. They went 2-2, with impressive wins coming over the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lighting. They also lost a heartbreaker to the Vegas Golden Knights 5-3, and then were blown out of the water by Florida 5-1 to cap it all off.

Three Stars

1. Thomas Chabot - Hotsam Batcho makes his second consecutive appearance on the list, as he was a world-class talent all week. Chabot had a three-point night against the Devils, and followed that up with an assist against Vegas and another goal against Tampa. He leads all defencemen in points with an astonishing 22, and continues to look great playing the big minutes. We really have something special here, folks.
2. Mark Stone - You could have easily made a case that Stone deserved to be the first star. You’ll get no argument from me, it was pretty much a coin toss. Stone almost single-handedly beat New Jersey with a five point night, and was on a six game point streak up until the Sens were dismantled by Florida. Mark Stone has been Ottawa’s best forward all year, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
3. Ryan Dzingel - Dzingel all the way! He’s riding a five game point streak, and has goals in four consecutive contests. With 14 points in 16 games, Dzingel is a potent threat on one of the best offensive units in the league (I know, right?). Look for him to set some new career highs in a big contract year, if this pace keeps up.

Trending Up

• Brady Tkachuk is back from injury, and looks like he hasn’t missed a step. He is relentless on the forecheck, and appears inseparable from the puck at times. It’s safe to say he’s not better off in junior or college this season.
• Craig Anderson has been an absolute horse. Up until the Florida game, he had appeared in 16 straight, with all seven of Ottawa’s wins coming with him between the pipes. They really need to get him a solid backup option.
• Colin White was having a great week before getting hurt against the Panthers. He sits second in rookie points with 10, and had his first career multi-goal game against the Devils. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, but here’s a look at what potentially could be the cause./

Trending Down

• Mike McKenna is looking less and less like an NHL goaltender. He’s surrendered 11 goals in three appearances, with a save percentage of 0.857. Ottawa is either praying for the resurgence of Mike Condon, or beginning to look elsewhere.
• Christian Jaros has shown promise, but hasn’t looked good in his end of the ice. Though being paired with Cody Ceci doesn’t help, his defensive game needs improvement.
• The pairing of Mark Borowiecki and Cody Ceci needs to not be a thing anymore, especially on the penalty kill. They have been absolutely abysmal, and make light work for other teams’ top players./

Who to Watch

Bobby Ryan is quietly having himself a solid stretch. While his -4 rating leaves something to be desired, a three point night against the Lightning shows he might still have a little something left in the tank. With 12 points in 18 games, let’s hope BFR can keep this up and find some semblance of his former level of play.
